Sikh Soldier Statue Unveiled in Leicester to Honour Sikh Contributions in Global Conflicts
A powerful new statue of a Sikh soldier has been unveiled in Leicester’s Victoria Park, paying tribute to the significant contribution of Sikhs who bravely served the UK in conflicts around the world.
The striking bronze figure, mounted on a granite plinth, was officially revealed to the public during a commemorative ceremony on Sunday. The memorial serves as a lasting reminder of the courage and sacrifice of Sikh troops and is designed to complement the existing war memorials in the park.
Historically, Sikhs represented over 20% of the British Indian Army at the outbreak of World War One, despite being a small minority in India’s population—highlighting their extraordinary commitment and loyalty.
The statue was created by renowned artist Taranjit Singh and made possible through funding from Leicester City Council and generous donations from local Sikh congregations.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the entire event management team and dedicated sevadaars for their tireless work in bringing this historic project to life.
