Sikh Motorcycle Club UK was featured on BBC Radio Leicester on 17 March 2023.
The interview was conducted by Jo Bostock and featured the club’s founder Kulwant Singh, along with members Mani, Ranjit, Avtar, Soni and Dilraj.
The interview discussed the club’s work in the community and their upcoming events.

Leicester-based motorcycle club combine their Sikh faith with passion for bikes
Sikh riders wear a turban as an expression of their religious beliefs and are exempt from the UK helmet law
The Sikh Motorcycle Club is no run-of-the-mill Harley-Davidson-loving society. They have found a way to combine their passion for motorcycles with their unshakeable faith to form a tight knit community.
The group was founded in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, and are known for riding around Leicester during religious festivals, such as the Nagar Kirtan, wearing fluorescent orange turbans. More recently, they made an appearance at the unveiling of the Sikh soldier statue at Victoria Park in October last year.
And while Covid brought about loss and detachment, the Sikh Motorcycle Club found a way to come together to create awareness and pass on information about turban-wearing Sikhs in the UK. Its founder, 42-year-old Kulwant Singh, said: “Our ancestors fought to wear the turban on motorcycles in the UK, in 1975.”
