Thousands Gather in Leicester for Annual Nagar Kirtan Celebration

Thousands of Sikhs came together in Leicester city centre this weekend to take part in the annual Nagar Kirtan, a vibrant religious procession marking the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder and first Guru of Sikhism.

The procession began just before midday on Sunday from East Park Road and made its way through the heart of the city, concluding at the Gurdwara Sahib on Holy Bones. Along the route, dozens of langar stalls served free food and refreshments to all, exemplifying the Sikh values of seva (selfless service) and community spirit.

This cherished event has been a part of Leicester’s cultural and spiritual calendar since 1986 and now attracts up to 10,000 participants each year.
